Understanding Blood Pressure
Blood pressure describes the force of blood against artery walls. Regular checks help you and your doctor notice changes early.
Blood pressure is usually written as two numbers: the higher is pressure when the heart beats, the lower is pressure between beats. Readings vary through the day, so one reading rarely tells the full story. Rest for five minutes before measuring, sit with your arm supported, and note the time. Bring your readings to your doctor, who can interpret them for you. Do not change or stop prescribed medicines without medical advice.
